Dublin, California - March 7, 2004 -Raymond Tong, Achievo's Vice President of China Operations, was visited by the San Francisco Chronicle in his ShenZhen office. Knowing that China is giving India heated competition in outsourcing services, the San Francisco Chronicle turned to Mr. Tong for Achievo's outlook on taking the lead in China for this industry.
"Our mission is to become a leading global IT and software services company... " -Raymond Tong, Vice President of China Operations at Achievo
Mr. Tong is a Hong Kong native who started his career in the Silicon Valley in the early 1980s. Now a naturalized U.S. citizen, he has returned to China armed with Silicon Valley know-how, connections, and capital to ensure Achievo's place in the escalating software industry.
Mr. Tong is positioning Achievo to tap into the exponential growth of the outsourcing industry that Gartner estimates to be a 27 billion dollar revenue generator in China by 2006. With offices in ShenZhen and Beijing that house software engineers, Achievo plans to triple its size this year in order to accommodate the growing customer base (pictures of the ShenZhen office were posted in The Chronicle). Achievo, a U.S.-headquartered corporation, is in a prime position to emerge as the leader in China-based outsourcing because of its ability to have dual foothold in Asia and U.S. markets. Located in Dublin, California, Achievo has strong ties to the Silicon Valley while taking advantage of the talents in China.
Moreover, Achievo is making strides in getting its programmers proficient in English to create better communication and professionalism with customers. This, in addition to having U.S. headquarter and expatriates such as Mr. Tong managing China operations, demonstrates how Achievo can be characterized as a natural bridge for U.S. companies to have their software developed in China.
Also featured in this Special Report are executives Carly Fiorina (HP), Carol Bartz (Autodesk), John Thompson (Symantec), Scott McNealy (Sun), Marc Andreessen (Opsware), & Larry Ellison (Oracle), all who tout outsourcing as the only way for companies to remain competitive.
